Build a Better Hero Trap
by Kalvin Lyle
Let me just start by saying that I hate traps. Why anyone would design content that’s express purpose is to be avoided is beyond me. If this happened in film or video games they would be exceptionally boring.

So why do DnD traps eat up 1/4 to 1/2 a page of content that can all be avoided by a DC 25 perception check from a rogue? The writer puts effort into the traps that never gets seen. The DM takes the time to read a trap that will never go off. The players make their skill check and there is no reward, they simple don’t have something bad happen. The whole thing is a mess.
